We’re excited to have eggs again. If you’ve passed by our farm you will have seen our bright yellow chicken house sitting up near the road. Our girls are settling in and busy roaming and pecking in their new home. They’ve already started laying and you’ll find our pretty green boxes of eggs in our
Riverstone Organic Farm sponsored a showing of the film Thomas Berry: The Great Story at the Floyd Country Store Saturday April 18. The work of eco-theologian Berry has touched us and permeates our work on the farm to be good stewards of this beautiful place. More about this film.
Our certified organic river bottom croplands yield a bountiful harvest. With 12 acres in production and an active team of experienced farmers we are able to grow for wholesale markets as well as stock our on-farm store. Our vegetables and berries are all certified organic and handled using Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). This season the majority of our crops will be sold to wholesale distributors. Starting in May 2015 our produce will also be available to purchase directly from our on-farm store, as well as at local retail establishments and restaurants through Good Food Good People.Read More
At Riverstone Farm, raising good meat is part of the larger picture. Our farming practices are based on our wish to provide healthy food, and to care for our environment in a way that will keep the land in good shape for the next generation to farm. The animals contribute to the health of our land. Intensive rotation grazing of cows and sheep fertilizes and stimulates the health of our pastureland and the pigs gently graze and root up the forest floor, removing invasive species and snacking on the hickory and acorns too. We brought the animals on to the land for their role in making this farm a healthier ecosystem but as a result, we have some outstanding meat to offer.
We encourage you to visit our farm store or join us for ascheduled on-farm event. A visit to the farm includes seeing our crops, green houses, cattle and hens on a guided tour with Farmer Kat (Johnson). You will also see our farm store selling produce, eggs, meat and preserves from the farm, and get a chance to walk our self guided woodland trail, or picnic down by the river.
